The Full Story

Attorney General, Hon. Marlene Malahoo Forte, has launched a parenting support programme in West Central St. James, for which she is the Member of Parliament.

The initiative aims to better enable parents and other residents to build strong families capable of providing the necessary foundations to support their children’s growth and development.

The programme will be highlighted by, among other things, a series of seminars, the first of which was staged at Howard Cooke Primary School in Montego Bay on Thursday, August 25.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Mrs. Malahoo Forte underscored the initiative’s importance, noting that “we can’t build a strong country or strong communities without strong families.”

As such, she encouraged parents to take steps to this end as “Jamaica will only get stronger if families are also strong.”

Mrs. Malahoo Forte told JIS News that the seminars will be staged throughout the 2016/17 academic year, which commences in September, and will complement constituency’s education programme.

She indicated that at least one seminar will be held during each of the three semesters comprising the school year, adding that these and other related engagements will be supported through several channels, including the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Mrs. Malahoo Forte said parents will also be assisted in off-setting some of their children’s back to school expenses.
