The Palladium Hotel Group has announced a 950-room expansion of its Grand Palladium Hotel in Point, Hanover, at a cost of €500 million.
The announcement was made at the ground-breaking ceremony on the hotel’s property on February 18.
This expansion will see the Grand Palladium replacing the Bahia Principe Grand in Discovery Bay, St. Ann, as Jamaica’s largest hotel property.
Vice President, Grupo Empresas Matutes and President of Palladium Hotel Group, Abel Matutes, said this expansion is about cementing its longstanding partnership with Jamaica as well as to bolster local economic growth through sustainable practices and community initiatives.
“This is not only one of our biggest investments, to date, but also a statement of our commitment to excellence,” he said.

Also participating in the ceremony were Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness and Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett.
The expansion will add to the existing 1,054 rooms, solidifying the Grand Palladium’s status as Jamaica’s premier resort destination.
It will also feature an innovative convention facility capable of hosting events for up to 1,000 guests, along with versatile spaces tailored for conferences and meetings.

Mr. Matutes also highlighted the project’s commitment to sustainability, noting that every aspect, from the design of two new buildings to operational strategies, “has been meticulously planned” for energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
“Our approach integrates both first- and second-phase sustainable energy solutions to create an efficient, eco-friendly environment for our guests and the community,” he explained.
The Palladium Group’s commitment extends beyond the hotel itself. As part of its investment strategy, the company will implement educational initiatives and skill-development programmes for local residents, focusing on modern farming techniques and other sustainable practices.
These efforts are designed to foster long-term economic growth and create sustainable wealth within the community, reinforcing Palladium’s role as a responsible corporate group.
Mr. Matutes also spoke about the need for rigorous water conservation measures and a transgenerational plan to reduce environmental impact, underscoring the Palladium Group’s dedication to sustainability.
For his part, Mr. Bartlett said that the Grand Palladium’s vision and ambition not only reflect a positive approach to a long-term investment but also demonstrate the level of optimism surrounding Jamaica’s tourism industry.
“Jamaica is poised for a tourism renaissance, and the Palladium Hotel Group is at the forefront of this transformation. As it prepares to leapfrog its competitors in room count, it symbolises a bright future for both the hotel group and our island nation, embodying a commitment to excellence, sustainability, and community growth,” the Minister noted.
“With this monumental expansion, the Palladium Hotel Group is not just enhancing its property but is also investing in the future of Jamaica, reaffirming its belief in the country as a prime destination for both leisure and business travel,” he added.
