Minister of Local Government and Environment, Dean Peart has said that a draft ozone bill was being finalized for passage into law this year.
Minister Peart, who was making his contribution to the 2006/07 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives earlier this week, said that, “an important provision of this law will be the requirement for refrigeration and air conditioning technicians to be certified and licensed.”
The Local Government Minister told the House that in the past year “the Ministry continued to pursue its programme of legislative reform aimed at comprehensively reforming the legislative framework governing our portfolio responsibilities”.
The aim, he said, “is to improve the effective administration, management, use preservation, development and control of our natural resources.”
He mentioned that a number of legislation were being dealt with in keeping with this effort. These include the Wild Life Protection Act, Regulations under the Beach Control Act, Planning Appeals Fee Regulations under the Town and Country Planning Act, and the Conservation Easements Legislation.
