The Full Story

More than 400 children and their families have received care packages consisting of grocery items from the National Child Month Committee (NCMC).

The distribution of the packages, which marked the conclusion of Child Month 2024, took place on Friday, May 31, at the Pentecostal Gospel Temple, 111 Windward Road, Kingston.

This initiative involved sponsorship and support from National Baking Company Foundation, GraceKennedy Foundation, KFC Jamaica, Food For the Poor, CB Chicken, and JN Foundation, aimed to support needy children and their families nationwide.

Chair Emeritus of the NCMC, Dr. Pauline Mullings, said the annual care package distribution is geared towards assisting vulnerable families, recognising the importance of providing essential resources for children’s holistic well-being and development.

She highlighted the commitment of NCMC to alleviate burdens faced by families and ensure access to fundamental necessities.

Dr. Mullings said the initiative not only provided tangible resources but also underscored the significance of community engagement and support.

Volunteers and community partners collaborated closely with NCMC to identify families and ensure the delivery of care packages to those most in need.

State Minister in the Ministry of Education and Youth, Marsha Smith, commended the NCMC’s continuous efforts spanning more than 70 years.

She praised the entity’s dedication to advocating for children’s rights and well-being, citing the care package initiative as crucial steps towards creating a brighter and more equitable future for all children, irrespective of their circumstances.

The care package programme, conceptualised in 2021 to aid families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic’s economic fallout, has evolved into a significant endeavour in supporting vulnerable families and promoting child welfare.
