Organisers of the Outsource2Jamaica 2025 (O2J2025) conference are expanding the number of buyers and brokers facilitated during the event, slated for the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James on April 10.
The year’s fifth staging, organised by the Global Services Association of Jamaica (GSAJ), is being held under the theme ‘Driving Excellence: Talent, Technology and Transformation’.
Speaking during a recent Jamaica Information Service (JIS) Think Tank at the Agency’s Television Department in Kingston, Conference Chair, Gloria Henry, said the event will focus on, among other things, areas of opportunity and collaboration in the global service sector.
Ms. Henry, who is also a director of the GSAJ, said the conference will have a platform for local and international buyers, as well as new investors, to engage with the facilitators of business in Jamaica.
Representatives of agencies falling under the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, including the Companies Office of Jamaica (COJ), will be present to assist budding entrepreneurs who may want to start a business.
“They could sign up and start their business right away. We are showcasing the opportunities in our ‘plug-and-play’ contact centres in Montego Bay and Portmore. We have two incubators with 220 seats in Montego Bay, along with plug-and-play facilities ready to start,” Ms. Henry said.
She further informed that O2J2025 will offer an all-inclusive package for investors, buyers, attendees, participants and sponsors.
“With the Companies Office there and JBDC (Jamaica Business Development Corporation), JIPO (Jamaica Intellectual Property Office), and other key organisations present, you can start your business immediately. Additionally, with recruiting agencies such as HEART/NSTA Trust there, you could sign up and begin operations the very next day from Outsouce2Jamaica. We are being deliberate in the selection of buyers focusing on areas where there are opportunities,” she added.
GSAJ President, Wayne Sinclair, who also spoke during the Think Tank, addressed the concerns of individuals who may be apprehensive about entering the industry due to discussions regarding the impact of new technology on the sector.
“We are here to let folks know that there are real opportunities that are coming because of the changes that are happening in technology,” he said.
Mr. Sinclair pointed out that the plan is to expand the scope of provisions beyond customer services and incorporate more stakeholders in the market who are able to offer these.
The conference is expected to showcase Jamaica’s immense potential as a hub for business process outsourcing (BPO), knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) and information technology-enabled services (ITES).
It will bring together global experts, technocrats, government officials, multilateral agencies, industry service providers and aspiring creative professionals to learn and network.
