Optimists Committed to Help in the Fight to Stamp out Violence Against Children

October 1, 2008

The Full Story

As Governor of the Caribbean District of Optimist International, an international service organisation dedicated to the welfare of young people, I am compelled on behalf of the Optimists, to join in protest against the recent spate of violent crimes being committed against the nation’s children.
It seems that our children and young people are under attack now more than ever before. Rape and murder of our youth go unabated, as evidenced by the recent attacks which resulted in the wanton murders of a boy and girl from rural and urban Jamaica.
How much longer are we going sit by and allow this ugly monster of crime and violence to dominate law-abiding citizens taking its toll with scant consideration, even for the young.
Members of the Optimist clubs in the Caribbean, particularly those of us here in Jamaica, are committed to joining forces with other likeminded organisations, as well as Government agencies with responsibility for the welfare of our children, to put up a concerted fight to save our children.
