Leader of the Opposition, Mark Golding, is welcoming the decline in the murder rate, so far, this year.
“This year, murders are down quite significantly, 30 per cent down versus last year (2024), a trend which every well-thinking Jamaica wishes to continue,” Mr. Golding said.
He was making his contribution to the 2025/26 Budget Debate in the house of Representatives on Tuesday (March 18) at Godon House.
Mr. Golding noted that the reduction in the murder rate is a testament to the effectiveness of targeted policing strategies.
“While the reduction in crime celebrated today is a step in the right direction, the journey is far from over. Enforcement alone is not enough. Jamaica must address the underlying conditions that perpetuate violence. By building peace, law and order from the ground up, the nation can pave the way for a brighter and safer future,” Mr. Golding said.
He also thanked the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force who put their lives on the line “for all of us every day”.
