In a bold move for sports tourism, the staging of the world’s first-ever 100m Beach Sprint was today announced by Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, The Hon. Edmund Bartlett.
The initiative, fully supported by Jamaica’s new Olympic Champion, Usain Bolt, aims to highlight the welcoming spirit of Jamaica as a leading lifestyle travel destination and a country of sporting excellence.
“The World Beach Sprint is an invitation to unlock the mystery of Jamaican speed and to experience our country,” said The Hon. Edmund Bartlett. “We want people to see and experience Jamaica and to learn about our ‘Sprint Factory’.”
This invitational event, with its inaugural staging next year, is supported and endorsed by Jamaica’s Minister of Youth, Information, Culture and Sports, The Hon. Olivia “Babsy” Grange.
The World Beach Sprint, is backed by International Sport Press Association AIPS, the World Athletics Awards and athletic track supplier Mondo.
The World Beach Sprint 2009, will coincide with the first staging of the World Athletics Awards.
Full details of the World Beach Sprint will be announced over the next few months.
