Official Funeral for Former Minister of Tourism Anthony Abrahams

Former Minister of Tourism, politician, former tourism executive, pioneer broadcaster and journalist, Eric Anthony Abrahams, will be accorded an official funeral by the Government of Jamaica. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 17 at the St. Andrew Parish Church starting at 3:00 p.m.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding in paying Tribute to Anthony Abrahams, described him as a unique and brilliant mind. Mr. Golding noted that Mr. Abrahams will be remembered for the trail of outstanding contributions he made in his service to his country and fellow Jamaicans.
The Oxford Rhodes scholar died on August 7 at the age of 71. He was the first black television reporter for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in London. He was also the youngest person to have been appointed Minister of Tourism under a JLP led government and was instrumental in the founding of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) becoming its first Executive Director.
When he left politics, Anthony Abrahams went back to his first love, that of being a broadcaster hosting his own current affairs breakfast radio programme, the Breakfast Club in 1992 on Newstalk radio station.
