Official Funeral for Dr. the Hon. Joyce Robinson, OJ, CD, MBE Veteran

Veteran librarian, public servant, and administrator, Dr. the Hon. Joyce Robinson, OJ, CD, MBE will be accorded an official funeral by the Government of Jamaica.
The service will take place on Friday, May 31 at the UWI Mona Chapel starting at 11.00 a.m.
Dr. Robinson, who died on Sunday, May 12, was the first Jamaican to head the Jamaica Library Service and played an invaluable role in the vibrant development and islandwide expansion of the service between 1957 and 1979.
As a public servant and administrator, Dr. Robinson led the highly successful and internationally acclaimed national literacy campaign (JAMAL) in the 1970s which saw over 200,000 Jamaicans learning to read and write.
She established and managed the H.E.A.R.T Trust (later HEART Trust/NTA) from 1982 until her retirement in 1991.
She also served briefly as Managing Director of the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC), in addition to giving outstanding voluntary service to several Government and Non-Government Organizations.
Dr. Robinson was recognized with the MBE by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and with the Order of Distinction (Commander) and later the Order of Jamaica for outstanding public service by the Government of Jamaica.
Expressing condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller said Dr. Joyce Robinson was a strong and determined woman who dedicated her life to public service which she served with utmost distinction.
Condolence books will be opened at the Branch Libraries across the country and at the HEART Trust.
