ODPEM Urges Precaution Against Flooding

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) issued a release Tuesday (Dec 22) evening, urging persons who feel threatened by flooding triggered by the current rains to seek shelter with relatives or friends.
The release from ODPEM stated:
“As the island continues to be impacted by conditions associated with the flashflood currently in effect, persons are being asked to avoid using the Eden Park Bridge as it has been severely damaged. All alternative access routes are also impassable at this time
All persons living and operating in low-lying flood prone areas are being urged to take the necessary precautions to remain safe.
Parish Disaster Co-ordinators are monitoring the situation in their respective parishes and ODPEM remains on alert to provide the necessary assistance. Individuals who feel threatened by the current or potential flooding threat should seek shelter with relatives or friends.”
The following are safety tips from ODPEM:
. Do not attempt to cross flooded roadways. Listen to your radio to keep informed . Do not walk outside barefooted during or after flooding. Bury all dead animals as soon as possible. Move your refrigerator, stove and furniture to a higher floor, or place them on building blocks and secure to the wall.
