The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is advising that ongoing firefighting efforts in the Flamstead area of Mavis Bank have resulted in the fire being brought under control.

Reports from the Jamaica Fire Brigade are that, should wind conditions remain favourable, no further spread of the fire is expected.

In the meantime, members of the public should continue to exercise caution in the area and where possible, to avoid the vicinity.

Currently, the Jamaica Fire Brigade is on site and is working to extinguish the fire. Efforts are being made to ensure that dwelling units are not threatened.

Further updates will be issued as necessary.

Fire Safety Tips:
-Avoid smoking in public areas.
– Keep matches and lighters up high, out of the reach of children.
– Replace cords that are cracked, damaged, have broken plugs, or have loose connections.
– Keep candles at least one foot from anything that can burn. Blow out candles when you leave the room or go to sleep.
