The National Occupational Safety and Health policy, as well as the Public Sector Occupational Safety and Health policy, are to be completed this financial year.
This was revealed by Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Shahine Robinson, while making her contribution to the 2016/17 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on June 28.
“A safe and healthy workforce is critical to productivity and prosperity, and the Ministry is committed to ensuring that the country’s workers are adequately protected from potential hazards in the work environment,” she said.
Mrs. Robinson noted that in preparation for the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation, the Ministry has been engaging private- and public-sector entities in its Voluntary Compliance Programme to ensure “a smooth transition to the regulatory requirements that will be binding when the new OSH Bill becomes law”.
The Ministry has also been engaging academic institutions to review and revise their training programmes to ensure the training is relevant to the current and new OSH Bill.
