The Full Story

The National Water Commission (NWC) commenced work last evening (October 6) on a sewer line that caused a breakaway on a section of the roadway in the vicinity of the Market Place on Constant Spring Road.

In an interview with JIS News, Corporate Public Relations Manager at the NWC, Charles Buchanan, said the agency’s engineers and waste-water specialists visited the site and examined the extent of the damage that can be seen.

“Since that time, we have initiated the emergency procurement arrangement to engage a contractor, who is now being mobilised to have his crew and equipment on location to begin repairs to the damaged sewer line,” he said.

Mr. Buchanan pointed out that the NWC has also taken steps to identify and begin the process of preparing and delivering to the location all the material and equipment that will be required to undertake the work.

He said based on what was observed, it is expected that the work will continue for a few days until completion.

“Every effort will be made to have it done in the shortest possible time,” Mr. Buchanan said.

A section of Constant Spring Road in the vicinity of the Market Place complex has been reduced to single-lane traffic, due to the breakaway of the road surface.

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists to use alternative routes, where possible, and those who use Constant Spring Road are advised to expect delays, as only two of the five lanes are accessible to vehicular traffic at this time.

The available lanes represent one lane for northbound traffic and one lane for southbound traffic.
