Marketing executive, theatre artist, writer, producer and actor, Aston Cooke has been selected by the Board of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) to hold the position of Interim Board Chairman. The Board’s selection of an Interim Chairman has received the endorsement of the Minister of Youth and Culture, the Hon. Lisa Hanna.

Mr. Cooke, a member of the JCDC Board brings to the position of Interim Chairman, strong management skills, recognized artistic mastery and significant brand marketing acumen. He has been a successful senior marketing executive with several private sector companies including Shell and Digicel. He is recognized globally for his work in Jamaican theatre as a writer, producer and actor. Aston Cooke has been spearheading youth development in theatre through the Schools Drama Festival and the Jamaica Youth Theatre.

The new Interim Board Chairman assumes leadership of the thrust to invest greater focus and the resources of the JCDC in the new strategic priorities of the Commission. These priorities include institutional strengthening and development of the JCDC, global exposure of authentic Jamaican cultural products and the broadening and deepening of public engagement and community involvement in Jamaica Independence celebrations.

Mr. Cooke takes over the interim leadership of the JCDC following the resignation on Thursday, January 23 of Dr. Dennis Howard as Interim Chairman and a Member of the JCDC Board.
