The function, which is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the university’s main campus, will see Dr. Allen being conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Public Service, for his service to the educational system and public service.
Dr. Allen, before entering the pastoral ministry full time, served in the public education system for over 10 years. He was involved with the Strategic Review Implementation Oversight Committee of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ). Dr. Allen also served as a Justice of the Peace for the parish of Manchester.
In 2006, he was recognised by the Government for his years of service, when he was conferred with the Order of Distinction (Commander class).
Dr. Allen will be sworn in as Governor-General, on February 26, succeeding His Excellency the Most Hon. Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, who has resigned for health reasons.
