The Full Story

The National Land Agency (NLA) is encouraging Jamaicans at home and abroad to make use of the entity’s services to seek assistance with property-related matters.

“We all have questions; even if it’s not us, it’s our family, it’s our friends. So, we encourage people, not only the diasporans, to come and ask questions,” said Senior Director for the Business Services Division at the NLA, Christopher McPherson.

He was speaking during the Government-at-Your Service/Marketplace session of the 10th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference, which was held from June 16 to 19 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St. James.

Mr. McPherson reaffirmed the entity’s pivotal role in ensuring security of tenure.

“It’s one of the rights of a Jamaican citizen to own property, and that is something that we ensure and that is something that the Government guarantees when you own your title,” he noted.

He said that among the services provided by the NLA is eLandjamaica, which is a convenient platform aimed at simplifying access to property details.

“It’s a wonderful product… you’re able to go on there, you’re able to check a title, print a copy of the title, ensure that what is being said to you is actually correct,” he pointed out.

Mr. McPherson said that eLandjamaica allows users to verify property details, including ownership status, valuation numbers, and property dimensions, thereby promoting transparency in property transactions.

He further cited the Search Certificate, which is issued by the Registrar of Titles.

The certificate provides authoritative information regarding incumbrances such as mortgage, leases, and caveats, which are essential for individuals considering property transactions.

The NLA, which is an entity under the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, brings together the core land information functions of government under one roof and includes Land Titles, Surveys & Mapping, Land Valuation & Estate (Crown Land) Management.
