The National Housing Trust (NHT) has projected housing expenditure of approximately $50 billion in the new financial year, with a further subsidy of about $21 billion under the External Financing Mortgage Programme.
Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, made the announcement in his contribution to the 2026/27 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on March 19.
“This represents one of the most ambitious housing programmes in the history of the NHT covering developments in St. Catherine, Trelawny, Manchester, Clarendon, Westmoreland, St. Thomas, St. Mary, Kingston, and beyond,” he pointed out.
“While we work to increase housing supply, we are always working to ensure the homes we build are accessible to the Jamaicans who need them most,” he added.
As at January 31, 2026, the NHT is actively managing more than 41,000 solutions at various stages of development across the island.
These include approximately 10,700 units currently under construction; nearly 6,000 at contract award stage; more than 11,500 in procurement and negotiations, and more than 11,600 in the planning and design phase.
Dr. Holness informed that two major new developments have commenced at Longville Meadows in Clarendon and Friendship Phase 2 in St. Elizabeth, totalling more than 2,800 solutions.
