The Full Story

The National Housing Trust (NHT) is assuring mortgagors in the lesser‑affected parishes that they, too, will benefit from the entity’s Hurricane Melissa Moratorium Relief initiative.

Administrative Manager in the Customer Relations Management Division, Shara Luke Cooper, explained that these individuals are required to apply for assistance.

This contrasts with those in the hardest‑hit parishes, whose mortgage payments have been automatically suspended for six months, from November 2025 to April 2026.

Mrs. Luke Cooper encourages eligible persons in St. Catherine, Portland, St. Thomas, Clarendon, St. Mary, Kingston and St. Andrew to submit applications for assistance.

“The moratorium is not just for persons who have sustained damage to their properties. If you are impacted financially because of the support that you will have to extend or have lost your job, particularly those who work outside their parish, you can make a submission to the NHT,” she told JIS News.

Mortgagors are required to submit a Special Assistance Form, along with the relevant supporting documents, for consideration. The form is available on the NHT’s website at https://www.nht.gov.jm.

The Hurricane Melissa Moratorium Relief initiative forms part of the NHT’s comprehensive disaster response framework, designed to assist contributors and mortgagors whose homes or livelihoods were affected by the recent hurricane.

The entity remains committed to supporting Jamaica’s recovery through an inclusive approach that benefits a broad cross‑section of individuals, including current contributors, mortgagors, former mortgagors, and pensioners.

Further details are available on the National Housing Trust’s website or at any NHT branch office.
