Medical Officer of Health for Portland, Dr. Sharon Lewis, has welcomed the expansion of pharmacy services in primary care across the parish, describing it as a significant benefit made possible through the National Health Fund (NHF).
Speaking during the Portland Municipal Corporation’s recent monthly meeting in Port Antonio, Dr. Lewis reported that up to the end of January 2026, only two primary-care facilities – the Port Antonio Health Centre and the Buff Bay District Health Centre –offered pharmacy services.
She noted that as of February 2026, the NHF had expanded pharmacy services in Portland to five additional health centres, thereby enabling clients to fill their prescriptions more easily and strengthening access to essential care across the parish.
Dr. Lewis outlined the health centres and the designated days for pharmacy services. In the Port Antonio Health District, services will be available at the Mount Pleasant Health Centre on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
In the Buff Bay Health District, pharmacy services will be offered at the Hope Bay Health Centre on the second and fourth Tuesdays, and at the Fruitful Vale Health Centre on the second and fourth Thursdays.
“For the Manchioneal Health District, the pharmacy services will be at the Manchioneal Health Centre every Monday… while for the Fair Prospect Health Centre [services will be available] every Wednesday, and on first and third Thursdays,” the Medical officer further informed.
“We are very grateful for the expansion of the pharmacy services. So, I say heartfelt thanks to the National Health Fund on behalf of the clients and the staff,” Dr. Lewis added.
