The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) wishes to advise that the Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch have been continued for Jamaica. The Meteorological Service has reported that while Ernesto has been downgraded to tropical storm status, it is still possible that it could regain hurricane strength in the next 24 hours. As a result the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and associated Parish Emergency Operations Centres (PEOC) remains activated and are ready to respond to any eventuality that may arise.

The ODPEM is also appealing to persons living in low-lying or flood prone areas to be vigilant and to continue to stay away from coastal areas that may be subject to flooding.
