New Policy Thrust at HAJ

July 12, 2012

The Full Story

The Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) will be undertaking a new policy thrust, aimed at ensuring the financial viability and efficiency of the agency, while satisfying the shelter needs of its various constituents.

Minister with Portfolio in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing, Hon. Dr. Morais Guy, made the disclosure during his contribution to the 2012/13 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives, on July 10.

He informed that this new policy thrust will result in the HAJ entering into more public/private partnership arrangements, aimed at building its technical capacity to manage the design and on-time delivery of its solutions.

Also, the Housing Agency of Jamaica will be embarking on a comprehensive housing programme that takes into account the various options currently being provided as a Ministry, to persons in the lower two quintiles.

The HAJ is a land/housing development company providing shelter solutions.  It is a wholly owned government company formed in 1998 through the merger of three entities – Caribbean Housing Finance Corporation Limited (CHFC), National Housing Corporation Limited (NHC) and Operation PRIDE.
