The Manchester-based New Green Primary School has won the Windalco safety quiz competition for the fourth consecutive year.
Eight primary schools from the parish vied for top honours in the keenly contested finals of the competition, which was held at the Kendal Conference Centre on earlier this week. Second place went to McIntosh Primary, while Mount Olivet Primary was adjudged the most improved. Computers, cash and other prizes were awarded to the top placed schools.
Captain of the New Green Primary team, McCarrie Miller, told JIS News that he was delighted to have participated in the competition as “I have learnt many important things about safety. The knowledge gained will be helpful in my school work and I want to say to my fellow students, to make personal safety a top priority.”
Meanwhile, Acting Principal of the winning institution, Calert Buchanan, informed that the quiz “has benefited our children a lot. We are very pleased and grateful for the prizes.” She noted that “safety is very important, and Windalco is keen on safety around their operating areas, and being in this competition, it has brought awareness on how the students can help in their own safety.”
Windalco instituted the safety quiz competition four years ago to promote safety in the communities in which they operate.
