The Full Story

January 15, 2016 is the new deadline for the submission of entries in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) competitions.

Jamaicans are being reminded to submit their applications for the 2016 Jamaica Festival Song, Jamaica Gospel Song and the Jamaica Children’s Gospel Song competitions.

Entries are also being accepted for the Visual and Performing Arts competition in the areas of speech, drama, music, traditional folk forms and dance.

The competition is open to individual performers, schools, community groups, youth clubs, social clubs, performing arts clubs, churches as well as private and public sector groups. Entry forms can be accessed online at the JCDC website: www.jcdc.gov.jm and at the JCDC Head Office located at 3-5 Phoenix Avenue,

Kingston 10, and all JCDC parish offices islandwide.

Events Coordinator for the Jamaica Gospel and Children’s Gospel Song competitions at the JCDC, Leighton Jones, told JIS News that the deadline for the competitions was extended “to meet the needs of the clients.”

He said a decision was taken after the JCDC offices had received numerous calls from persons expressing an interest in the competitions and asking for an extension.

“It is the first that we are actually having all the entertainment arts and performing arts close at the same time and so there were still some clients who had not heard and in the last week we had so many calls from a number of persons across the island asking about the competitions,” he added.

“So, this year, our thrust is  to have all the entries close at the same time, so we can have a better control,” he continued, adding that the new deadline will not interfere with other scheduled events of the JCDC.
