The Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology is in the process of consultations for sign-off on the Net Billing Regulations.
This was disclosed by Portfolio Minister, Hon. Daryl Vaz, during his contribution to the 2021/2022 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on May 18.
He also informed that the Ministry is preparing drafting instructions for legislative provisions for Power Wheeling.
“The delays encountered have more to do with the lack of technical capacity within the Ministry, but that is being addressed as a matter of priority. In fact, we expect significant capacity strengthening in the Energy Division starting in a matter of weeks,” Mr. Vaz said.
Meanwhile, the Joint Select Committee on The Electricity Act, 2015 commenced its work some weeks ago to strengthen the legislative provision governing the electricity sector.
“We look forward to robust discussions in the Joint Select Committee,” Mr. Vaz said.
Regarding the Petroleum (Downstream Activities) Bill, the Minister told the Lower House that progress is being made on this legislation.
He said further instructions have been provided to the Chief Parliamentary Counsel based on input received from the trade.
