NERHA Enhances Fleet with $60M Worth of Vehicles

The Northeast Regional Health Authority (NERHA) has enhanced its transportation capacity with the addition of vehicles valued at approximately $60 million to support the delivery of public health services across St. Ann, Portland and St. Mary.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, said the addition of pickup trucks and buses brings NERHA’s fleet to 64 vehicles and will enhance the movement of personnel and supplies across the three parishes.

He was speaking at a vehicle handover ceremony at the Ocean Village Shopping Centre in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, on September 17.

Dr. Tufton underscored the importance of reliable transportation to the effective functioning of the public health system, noting that mobility extends far beyond the transportation of patients.

“Our pickups move supplies, they move sector workers, they move community health aides, and… the vans, of course, can do everything from mental health response to carrying workers at night,” he stated.

Dr. Tufton said the additional vehicles will provide critical support to health teams as they carry out their responsibilities across the region.

He encouraged NERHA administrators and managers to ensure that the vehicles are properly maintained, utilised solely in support of the public health system, and are not used for other purposes.

Meanwhile, Minister Tufton commended the staff members serving across St. Ann, Portland and St. Mary, and urged them to continue working to deliver effective public health services.
