The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) successfully hosted the eighth staging of its annual sensitisation session for students who will be sitting Geography in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination.
Tailored specifically for fourth and fifth-form students, the event took a hybrid approach, providing a platform for them to enhance their understanding of key geographical concepts, deepen their knowledge of environmental issues, and receive valuable insights to excel in their upcoming examinations and school-based assessments (SBAs).
Delivering remarks from the grounds of the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel in Kingston on Wednesday, February 7, Manager of the Public Education Corporate Communication Branch within NEPA, Angela Hamilton, said the agency was delighted to host the event again this year.
“This NEPA CSEC Geography webinar is an important event on our calendar… and we are delighted to put this on for our students. Over the years, the sessions have been useful and effective in [helping to prepare] students for their SBAs and their external CSEC exams,” she said.
Mrs. Hamilton also acknowledged that NEPA’s core mandate is to manage and protect Jamaica’s natural and built environment.
In view of this, she explained that while the sessions are primarily geared towards helping students excel in their exams, they also aim to encourage them to protect and take care of the environment.
“We want you to succeed in your exams and in your SBAs, but we [also] want you to partner with us in making a difference [by] being a part of the solution to safeguard the environment,” Mrs. Hamilton said.
The event drew participation from students and teachers enrolled in several schools across the region, highlighting the widespread recognition of NEPA’s commitment to education and environmental advocacy.
As the agency continues to play a pivotal role in environmental management and education, these sensitisation sessions serve as a testament to its dedication to nurturing well-rounded, informed citizens.
