The Full Story

The National Child Month Committee (NCMC) will be commemorating Child Month 2024 with seven activities in May, under the theme ‘Stand Up! Speak Out! Protect the Rights of our Children’.

Chair of the NCMC, Dr. Pauline Mullings, said this year’s theme is a call to action for citizens to fulfil their duty to protect the nation’s children.
She was addressing the NCMC Child Month 2024 media launch, held today (April 25) at the Institute of Jamaica (IOJ), in downtown Kingston and online.

“Child protection is everybody’s business. The NCMC for the past 70 years has worked passionately and assiduously to recognise the month of May as Child Month [when] we educate the public about the needs of children and fuel national participation in catering to these needs. This year, we renew the call for all to be dedicated and relentless in safeguarding the nation’s children,” she said.

The month of activities will commence with a church service on May 5 at the Saxthorpe Methodist Church in Kingston, at 9:15 a.m. This will be followed by the observance of National Children’s Day on May 17.

The National Day of Prayer will be held on May 29 at 10:00 a.m. at the Eastwood Park Road New Testament Church of God.

Another activity is the care package distribution day on May 31 when needy families will be targeted for assistance.

The activities will extend beyond the month with the National Youth Forum, slated to be held on November 1, at 10:00 a.m.

The celebratory activities will culminate with the Youth Academic Achievement Awards ceremony, to be held on November 22, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Caenwood Centre Auditorium.
