The Full Story

The Ministry of Education and Youth, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, celebrates National School Moves Day on Friday, April 26, under the theme ‘Live Life Moving: Every Movement Matters!’.

As part of the celebrations, students at the primary and secondary levels are being encouraged to enter a ‘Flex and Flow’ song and dance competition.

A bulletin issued by the Education Ministry stated that the students should create a 90-second video featuring an original song, and dance moves inspired by the Jamaica Moves in School programme.

Key phrases, such as healthy eating, physical activity, and regular check-ups are some of the buzz words that must be used in the video.

The top-four schools will perform at the National School Moves Day event on April 26, scheduled to be held at the Manchester High School in Mandeville.

The overall winning entry will become the beat of Jamaica Moves in School activities for a year.

National School Moves Day aims to reinforce the importance of physical activity in all schools.

It will allow all stakeholders in the school community to get involved in physical activities.

School administrators across the island are asked to organise their National School Moves Day celebration, ensuring that at least one full hour of physical activity is allocated to the entire school’s populace.

The deadline for submitting entries for the song and dance competition is Friday, April 5.
