The Full Story

This year’s National Leadership Prayer Breakfast (NLPB) under the theme ‘Caring for Our Neighbours’ will unite the nation in the restoration and rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.

Chairman of the National Leadership Prayer Breakfast Committee (NLPBC), Pastor Claudia Ferguson, said that the event will encourage continued engagement in tangible acts of kindness and empathy aimed at “ameliorating the plight of our brothers and sisters who are in physical, mental or emotional need”.

She was speaking at the recent launch of the event at the offices of the VM Group on Half-Way Tree Road in St. Andrew.

The 2026 staging of the Breakfast will take place on Thursday (January 15), at the Boulevard Baptist Church in St. Andrew, starting at 7:30 a.m.

Funds generated from the event will go towards the reconstruction of a wellness centre at the Manning’s School in Westmoreland, which sustained significant damage during Hurricane Melissa.

Member of the Manning’s School Past Students’ Association, Jonathan Brown, said that the organisation appreciates the NLPBC and the VM Group for “deciding to support the school in this way, particularly at this time”.

Board member Jamaica National Children’s Home (JNCH), Maurice Goldson, who benefited from last year’s staging, also expressed gratitude for the support.

The proceeds benefited the Tegwyn House for disabled children at the JNCH, including undertaking a solar project.

“We continue to encourage the tremendous work that this committee and the VM Group continues to do to help others and serve the nation’s less fortunate. Thank you very much for your support. Thank you very much for your contribution,” Mr. Goldson said.

The NLPB will be held under the patronage of Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, and will include Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness; Leader of the Opposition, Mark Golding; Cabinet members, parliamentarians, custodians, the judiciary, and other State officials, and the general public.

Held since 1981, the NLPB provides a space for the nation’s leaders to gather for fellowship and prayer as they work together to build national unity.
