The Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information in collaboration with the HEART/NSTA Trust, Junior Achievement Jamaica and CHOICES, will host National Career Awareness Week 2025 from February 9-14 under the theme: ‘Career Success through Self Development’.

This annual observance aims to empower students at all levels to make informed career choices and enhance their future through education, entrepreneurship and professional development.

Assistant Chief Education Officer in the Ministry’s Guidance and Counselling Unit, Kennecy Davidson, said this year’s celebration promises to be a week filled with engaging activities designed to connect infant, primary, high and tertiary students, community youth and stakeholders with the world of work and higher education.

The events are intended to foster a culture of career exploration and readiness, particularly in an increasingly digital landscape.

The activities kick off with the national church service on Sunday, February 9.

This is slated for the Meadowbrook United Church in Kingston, beginning 10:00 a.m.

These continue on Monday, February 10, with displays that will be mounted across the Education Ministry’s Regions.

The displays will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM)-related careers and the changing global job market.

Students of all ages will learn about different career paths and the TRENDing Career Pathways that the Ministry is supporting.

The HEART/NSTA Trust Youth Career Conference is scheduled for Wednesday, February 12 at the Jamaica Conference Centre, downtown Kingston, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. This event will cater to HEART trainees, community youth and high school students.

Speakers from the growth sectors identified in the Vision 2030 Jamaica plan will make presentations on careers in the information and communications technology (ICT), agriculture, sports and entertainment sectors.

Highlight of the week is the career expo on Friday, February 14.

This event, organised by HEART, will be held at the Mico College University Gymnasium and facilitate interactive opportunities for youngsters to explore diverse career options.

Meanwhile, an awards ceremony is slated for the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston on February 20, during which outstanding entries in the National Career Awareness Week 2024 poster competition will be recognised.

“Throughout the week, industry leaders will engage the students in talks and interactive workshops to provide them with insights into the changing global job market. The activities have been curated to cater to every student, ensuring that everyone, can benefit from these comprehensive career development initiatives,” Mrs. Davidson said.
