The Full Story

The MultiCare Youth Foundation (MYF) will embark on a new five-year initiative to improve literacy, in partnership with the Creative Language-Based Learning (CLBL) Foundation.

This follows the successful completion of the European Union (EU)-funded BRIDGE Project.

Executive Director of the MYF, Mitzian Turner, made the announcement during the Graduation and Close-Out Ceremony for the BRIDGE Project, held recently at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

She said the upcoming project will target more than 270 schools across the island, building on the evidence-based lessons learned from BRIDGE (Building through Reintegration, Intervention, Development, Growth and Education) to create sustainable, school-based solutions.

“We are seeking to continue in this vein, with this new project focusing on increasing literacy, employability, and providing critical psychosocial support to our youth,” she said.

The initiative is aligned with the Government’s Inter-Ministerial School Support Strategy, with the Ministries of National Security and Peace, and Education, Skills, Youth & Information identified as key partners that will be critical to ensuring its successful implementation.

Mrs. Turner emphasised that continued collaboration will be essential, noting that the partnership between MYF and CLBL represents the next step in expanding the reach of integrated youth development programmes, combining literacy training with emotional intelligence, life skills, and mentorship.

“Our goal is not just to reduce risk but to build capacity, confidence, and character in every young person we reach,” she said.

The Executive Director also expressed appreciation to the European Union for its ongoing confidence in the Foundation’s capacity to deliver transformational youth programmes.

“The BRIDGE Project has shown what is possible when development partners, civil society, and government agencies work hand in hand. This new initiative will continue that journey towards a more educated, employable, and resilient generation of Jamaicans,” she said.
