The Full Story

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reporting a 40 per cent drop in murders since the start of the year.

Commissioner of Police, Dr. Kevin Blake, shared the figures at the handover of technology equipment at the Police Commissioner’s headquarters in St. Andrew on Wednesday (May 14).

He said that all major crimes are trending downwards.

“The nation is seeing a 40 per cent reduction in murders, a 32 per cent decline in shootings, and a 21 per cent drop in overall major crimes,” he said.

Dr. Blake credited the results to internal changes within the JCF, including improved coordination, stronger leadership, and consistent on-the-ground presence in high-risk areas.

“This is an achievement that is brought about by deliberate strategy, highly motivated and mobilised staff, and significant improvement in how we work each day,” he said.

The growing role of digital technology in daily policing was also highlighted, with the new systems enabling real-time enforcement, improved responsiveness, and greater efficiency.

Commissioner Blake acknowledged the public’s role in supporting the police.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the people of Jamaica who have shown unprecedented support for the men and women on the front line and in support formations,” he said.

He noted that Jamaica’s security environment is one where modern tools, public engagement, and accountable policing are combining to deliver measurable improvements in safety and public trust.
