The Full Story

A  multipurpose entertainment and sports facility is coming for St. Thomas.

Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, made the announcement during the ribbon cutting exercise for the $6 billion Morant Bay Urban Centre in the parish on Thursday (May 15).

He said that the facility will be in proximity to the urban centre.

“We have 13 and a half acres of land in proximity to this development and I want you to look out for it because I intend to come to the first festival or stage show that is kept there. We’re going to develop that land into a multipurpose entertainment and sports facility that is going to be the envy of other parishes,” Dr. Holness said.

He noted that there are plans for the expansion of the urban centre and its environs.

“This project is not yet finished because we’re going to do another extension of 10 acres of new buildings for micro and small businesses,” he informed.

Dr. Holness said  that among the dozens of clients that will occupy space at the new urban centre is the parish’s first university, a modern court facility and a HEART NSTA/Trust facility.

He assured the residents that the development is being future-proofed and steps are being taken to accommodate its expansion.

“We are not just thinking for five years, we are thinking for the next 50 years. This urban centre is going to grow and so we are taking the steps necessary to ensure that we have access to lands around the urban centre to secure its future extension,” the Prime Minister said.
