The Full Story

The MultiCare Youth Foundation (MYF) is actively seeking to partner with organisations across various industries to provide internship opportunities for its youth beneficiaries.

As part of a suite of interventions under its European Union (EU) BRIDGE Project, the MYF’s internship programme aims to empower young people by providing invaluable experience, soft skills training, and networking opportunities needed to transition into the working world.

The Foundation is looking to its business partners, especially those located in and around May Pen, Clarendon; Montego Bay, St. James; and Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, to collaborate and become internship hosts for between four and 12 weeks.

Speaking to JIS News on Thursday (July 25), Placement and Referrals Officer at the MYF, Rodre Lawrence, expressed that “the goal of the internship programme is to ensure that the youth can gain some experience to have an appreciation for the working world… so that when they leave school, they can get long-term jobs in these organisations”.

He noted that many of the young people, who are from communities impacted by violence, face challenges due to their educational levels, limited work experience and stigma because of where they reside.

The programme, therefore, serves as a bridge between education and employment, giving young people a fair chance to succeed in the workforce.

Mr. Lawrence told JIS News that one of the key advantages of the MYF Internship Programme is the financial support it offers to participants, which also positively impacts participating organisations.

“Interns will receive a weekly stipend paid directly by the MYF, hence reducing any financial burden on the host company,” he said.
Organisations are encouraged to supplement these stipend payments to further enhance the impact of the initiative.

By hosting MYF interns, companies can also benefit from fresh talent, increased personnel resources and new perspectives that can positively contribute to their mission and vision.

Companies interested in hosting MYF interns can call 876-283-6777 or send an email to rodrel@icdgroup.net.

They may also visit the MFY website at https://myfjamaica.org/get-involved/ and sign up to become an employment partner.

Join the MYF in making a difference in the lives of our youth and creating a brighter future for our communities.
