Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator the Hon. Aubyn Hill, is calling on micro, small and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) operators to take full advantage of the Ministry’s Business Roadshows, which are designed to provide them with valuable growth opportunities.
Speaking at the second Roadshow of the year held earlier today (February 20) at the JUICI Empowerment Park in Clarendon, Senator Hill noted that MSMEs form the backbone of Jamaica’s business sector.
Recognising their critical role, the Ministry, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has organised the Roadshows to offer entities access to services and opportunities to expand their operations and boost productivity.
“Our goal is to prepare and support you to start and increase your exports and ensure your success in the marketplace,” Minister Hill said.
The event featured two knowledge-sharing sessions led by industry experts and key stakeholders, as well as a Tech Talk, where participants learned how to monetise social media and leverage digital tools to enhance their business operations.
Additionally, MSME operators gained direct access to the MIIC’s 19 agencies, along with support from various government entities, financial institutions and corporate sponsors.
A highlight of the Roadshow was the Small Business Pitch Competition, where MSME operators had the chance to compete for up to $400,000 to scale their production for the export market.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Sancia Bennett Templer, in noting the significance of the competition, said it “is designed to tell the world about your business. Being a pitch competition winner provides access to government agencies, expert business advisory services, financing opportunities, and strategies for growth and export success”.
The Business Roadshow was hosted in collaboration with key partners, including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), MasterCard, Hi-Pro, ATL Automotive Group, HEART/NSTA Trust, Development Bank of Jamaica, Jamalco, Pepsi Jamaica, and other stakeholders, ensuring a strong support system for Jamaican entrepreneurs.
The next Roadshow will take place on Thursday, March 6, at St. Elizabeth Technical High School. All MSME business owners are encouraged to register and participate.
