The Full Story

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) are being encouraged to register for the upcoming webinar that is being hosted by the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) as part of its Virtual Biz Zone series.

The webinar, titled ‘Exploring E-commerce Payment Gateways for MSMEs’, will be held on the Zoom platform on June 18 at 10:00 a.m., and will be conducted by Business Developer and Start-Up Coach, Gerbry Business Limited, Germaine Bryan.

Registration may be done online via the JBDC’s website at www.jbdc.net.

Corporate Communications Manager, JBDC, Suzette Campbell, told JIS News that the webinar, which is the first for 2024, is part one of the Online Selling Series.

“We want to encourage the MSMEs in Jamaica not to miss the Virtual Biz Zone, because this is free education that you are getting,” she said.

Ms. Campbell informed that the webinar is aimed at sensitising the target audience about digital transformation and will seek to expose participants to “what payment gateways are, why you need it if you’re running an e-commerce business and what you should be considering when you choose a payment gateway”.

She further stressed the importance of the information that will be shared in the webinar.

“This is important information, because a lot of persons might see e-commerce as just putting up products on a website, but there is a lot more to consider, and the payment gateway is one such thing,” said Ms. Campbell.

She also noted that digital transformation is a main area of focus for the Government, and the JBDC is tasked with carrying out capacity building for MSMEs.

“Digital transformation is paramount for a variety of reasons – just the way you operate, how you run your business, how you market your business, and how you sell. The JBDC is doing its part in the digital transformation of businesses in Jamaica,” Ms. Campbell added.

The JBDC is an agency of the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce.

It was established in 2001 as the premier government agency providing business development services to Jamaican MSMEs.

It provides guidance for business start-ups and expansion, offering business advice and consultation, research services, business monitoring, training and capacity building, project management services, financial advice, design and product development as well as market penetration support and access.
