The Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprise (MSME) and Entrepreneurship Policy, which provides a comprehensive, targeted and coherent framework to support the sector, is now before Parliament for its deliberations.
Information Minister, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, said the policy, which was approved by Cabinet, also seeks to position businesses to benefit from opportunities which are expected to come from the Logistics Hub initiative.
“Among the issues identified are: the creation of an enabling environment for business; increased financing to the MSME sector; the enhancement of business and development support; and the fostering of a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation,” she outlined at a Jamaica House press briefing, held at the Office of the Prime Minister on Wednesday, May 15.
In his 2013/14 Sectoral Debate presentation in the House of Representatives on May 14, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Anthony Hylton, said even as Jamaica aggressively pursues new markets for its goods and services, the MSME sector will be developed in tandem with the growth of large scale businesses, multinational corporations and enterprises.
This, he said, will be pursued through legislative and administrative reforms, consistent with global best practices.
