The Full Story

Member of Parliament for St. Andrew West Rural, Hon. Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, is welcoming the infrastructural improvements to be undertaken in Lawrence Tavern under the Government’s rural development programme.

She noted that the town centre has outgrown its space. “The square is congested and is badly in need of reconfiguring, so I look forward to what’s to come for the people and businesses of Lawrence Tavern,” Mrs. Cuthbert-Flynn said.

She was making her contribution to the State of the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (October 5).

Lawrence Tavern is among five communities to benefit from the approximately $600 million rural development programme. The others are Chamber’s Pen in Hanover, which is the pilot community; Banks in Clarendon; Cheesefield in St Catherine; and Cheswick in St. Thomas.

Mrs. Cuthbert-Flynn, who is Minister of State for Health and Wellness, said that Lawrence Tavern will also benefit under the $789-million Essex Hall water project “which has been approved in the budget and is on track”.

“The funds have been identified and they are now in the design phase of this project… . This will supply the entire Lawrence Tavern area from Burnt Shop to Border,” she said.

She thanked the National Water Commission (NWC) for its work to upgrade pipelines across the constituency and the metering of new customers in areas such as Fern Hill, Prospect Hall, Cushnie Road, Coakley and in the King Weston area.

“Water to all communities must be a priority for sustainable development. I look forward to more communities being upgraded with larger pipelines and consistent water supply. This is something that is ongoing with NWC in West Rural St. Andrew,” she said.
