The Full Story

Rehabilitation works are under way on the Moy Hall roadway in St. James under the Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (SPARK) Programme.

“It is one of several projects that are being undertaken in the parish of St. James through this programme, with the others being Greenwood and Brissett in St. James,” Community Relations Officer at the National Works Agency (NWA) Western Office, Janel Ricketts, told JIS News.

“It’s a significant project that seeks to improve the condition of that particular stretch of roadway. We have a situation where it is a very hilly terrain and prior to the construction, the road was indeed in a poor condition,” she noted.

She informed that the work, which began in August, includes drainage upgrades to address the effects of surface water on the roadway.

“Based on the hilly terrain, there is quite a bit of runoff, and the constant water or surface water on the roadway will lead to it being undermined,” she pointed out.

“So, there are particular sections that would have been more susceptible to this. These have been identified and those particular sections will be fit with concrete pavement,” Ms. Ricketts said.

The other sections will have asphaltic concrete overlay, she noted.

The combination of enhanced drainage infrastructure and reinforced pavement is expected to improve durability, reduce erosion, and provide safer travel conditions along the Moy Hall corridor.
