The Full Story

More than 30 roads across St. Mary South Eastern are programmed for repairs over the next nine months.

This was disclosed by Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Dr. the Hon. Norman Dunn, during his contribution to the 2024/25 State of the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (October 15).

He said the roads will be patched or rehabilitated under several programmes. These include the Shared Prosperity Through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (SPARK) Programme, the Relief Emergency Assistance and Community Help (REACH) Programme, and the Christmas programme.

He informed that the Belfield Pen Road and the Berniard to Platfield Road will also be repaired, through the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA).

Dr. Dunn said thanks to Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining Minister, Hon. Floyd Green, and RADA, “substantial work has taken place on Long Road”, adding that “extensive improvements have taken place on the Richmond to Highgate roadway”.

“However, I am also requesting further assistance to address Rosemount Road, Belfield Pen… and Camberwell Road,” the MP added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dunn advised that Hilltop Road in the Bellefield Division has been rehabilitated and now offers motorists a smoother journey, pointing out that the residents have welcomed the repairs.

Dr. Dunn expressed gratitude to former Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Everald Warmington, for assistance extended in facilitating rehabilitation of the Scotts Hall to Bottom Leinster Road.

The State Minister indicated that the roads from Gibbs Hill and Golden Valley to Providence have been patched, adding that “more extensive work” is slated under the SPARK Programme, for which he thanked Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Hon. Robert Morgan.

Dr. Dunn informed that ongoing roadwork along the Junction Main Road continues to bolster the infrastructure, resulting in the corridor being in one of its best states ever.

Meanwhile, the MP was full of praises for the new SPARK Programme, which he described as a revolutionary initiative, designed to transform the road infrastructure.

“Its impact is already being felt, as it has brought community members together with stakeholders in a collaborative effort to identify and prioritise critical needs,” Dr. Dunn said.
