More educators are being encouraged to obtain electronic vouchers to purchase laptop computers by e-Learning Jamaica Limited (eLJAM), under its Own Your Own Device programme.
Chief Executive Officer, eLJAM, Andrew Lee, told JIS News that this is to ensure that every teacher in the public education system has access to the technology they need to excel in their roles.
“Every teacher would have received the form that they need to complete, and we urge all eligible teachers who have yet to submit their applications, to do so promptly,” Mr. Lee said.
The programme was initially slated for completion at the end of the last fiscal year; however, delays in submissions have prompted the organisation to extend its timeline to the end of the first quarter of the 2024/25 financial year.
To date, approximately 25,700 vouchers have been issued from a target of 26,000, as eLJAM remains steadfast in its commitment to empower educators and enhance educational experiences for all.
“We understand the importance of equipping our teachers with the necessary tools to facilitate effective learning environments. Once submitted, applications are promptly processed, and vouchers are distributed electronically, enabling recipients to redeem their devices without delay,” Mr. Lee said.
The CEO also assured that eLJAM will continue to accommodate new teachers entering the system, even after its target has been met, as the organisation strives to provide ongoing support to educators joining the workforce.
