Cabinet has approved two contracts valued at $222,653, 782.27 for the procurement of antiretroviral drugs for the treatment of HIV.
One contract in the sum of $174, 488,848 has been awarded to Matrix Laboratories Limited and the other,valued at $48,164,934. 27,to Ranbaxy Laboratory.
Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, peaking at today’s (January 26) post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House said the funding for the drugs is part of a grant from the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
“The Jamaica Country Co-ordinating Mechanism for HIV/AIDS Response is the recipient of a grant from the Global Fund to implement a project to consolidate existing gains while scaling up the provision of universal access to treatment, care and prevention services with special emphasis on vulnerable populations in Jamaica,” he said.
The contracts were awarded on the recommendations of the National Contracts Commission and Cabinet’s Infrastructure Subcommittee.
