KINGSTON — The "moods channel website", designed to empower people to live a more positive and fulfilling life, was officially launch on Wednesday September 21, at a ceremony held at the Institute of Jamaica (IOJ), downtown Kingston.
The initiative of Research Psychologist and author, Dr. Desmond Green, the website is a motivational vehicle, with insights and core values, which, if practised, can transform a societyyourself to enjoy life more fully.
It provides tools for dealing with crime and other dysfunctional behaviours, which plaque communities, while teaching self-development, anger management, social responsibility and provides tips on how persons can cope with frustrations and enjoy life more fully.
The Institute of Jamaica in collaboration with the Blossom O’Meally-Nelson Foundation are supporting the project.
Chairman of the foundation, Dr. Blossom O’Meally-Nelson, said the website will contribute to the development of proper discipline within the society. She commented that the national conscience of the country was “frightening”.
“We are an angry people, we are a frustrated people. You just have to go on the road and try and pull up at the stop sign like a decent person and see how many people come in front of you and tell you to ‘guh weh’,” she said.
“We have so many things in our society that is promoting frustration and promoting hatred and lack of discipline. There is just a total lack of respect for anybody in authority,” she added.
She said that the moods channel serves as a vehicle “to begin to engage our children so that they can begin to understand that there are things on the internet that are of value and that can help them."
Dr. Green, in his comments, noted that there was a need to teach children how to value and respect themselves.
