Mo-Bay Cruise Terminal to be Expanded

The Port Authority of Jamaica has received the go ahead from Cabinet to purchase just over 280,000 sq. ft. of property in the Montego Freeport at a cost of $184 million, to facilitate expansion of the Montego Bay cruise terminal.

Making the disclosure during Wednesday’s (December 19), Jamaica House Media Briefing, at the office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, informed that Cabinet approved the Authority’s acquisition of Lot B20, comprising 87,000 sq. ft of space at a cost of $57 million; Lot B21, incorporating 131,000 sq. ft. for $85 million; and Lot B68, totaling 63,278.66 sq. ft, which will cost $42 million.

“The properties are required for the expansion…to facilitate the berthing of larger vessels and to provide additional bus staging areas and access to the main roads,” she informed, while advising that funding “is already factored in the Port Authority of Jamaica budget."

Meanwhile, the Information Minister informed that Cabinet has approved the awarding of a contract in the sum of $64.36 million to G.M Associates Limited to effect renovation and expansion of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) Trelawny parish office.

"The works will include the removal of asbestos roofing; the replacement of the roof; demolition works; the installation of a new sewage system; a new water storage system; a central air conditioning system; and the provision of new and additional bathrooms; additional office space; as well as on-site parking,” she outlined.
