The second Executive Committee Meeting of the Regional Ministers and High Level Authorities of Housing and Urbanisation in Latin America and the Caribbean (MINURVI), which was scheduled for the Jamaica Conference Centre, in Downtown Kingston on May 8, 2009, has been cancelled.
The move is in keeping with the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO) that persons postpone travel at this time, due to concerns about Influenza A (H1N1).
However, plans are still in high gear for the 18th MINURVI General Assembly, which will be held in Jamaica, from July 15 to 17, 2009. The three-day meeting will be attended by Ministers of Housing and Urbanisation from across Latin America and the Caribbean.
The 17th MINURVI conference was held in El Salvador in September 2008, and hosted by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development of that country. At that conference, the Presidency was officially transferred to Jamaica for the 2008 to 2009 period. Jamaica was thus elected to host the 18th MINURVI meeting this year.
The regional meeting of MINURVI was initiated in early 1992, out of the belief that benefits could be derived through the sharing of information and experiences between countries of the region, particularly in the development of human settlement policies.
Regional meetings are held annually and hosted by a member country of MINURVI.
