The Ministry of Health says that normality has returned to public hospitals, following an increase in the number of nurses on duty, since Friday (April 9).
The Ministry of Health’s National Emergency Operations Centre, activated on Friday, recorded a high turn out of registered nurses at 25 public hospitals islandwide, including the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston.
There was a 100% turnout at 19 hospitals on April 10, among them the Kingston Public, Victoria Jubilee, Spanish Town, Linstead, National Chest, Mandeville, Black River, Percy Junor, Cornwall Regional and the Sav-la-Mar Hospitals. Attendance levels remained normal on April 11 with an overall 98.2% turn out at all hospitals. The majority of nurses who did not attend work reported sick.
The MOH National Emergency Operations Centre will remain open daily between 9am – 5pm to ensure on-going monitoring of attendance and to determine and implement the necessary interventions. The centre can be contacted at 1-888-663-5683.
