The Ministry of Labour and Social Security will host a productivity summit from June 19 to 21.

Portfolio Minister, Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr., says the hybrid ‘Future of Work’ summit will coincide with World Productivity Day on June 20.

Speaking during a 2024/25 post-Sectoral Debate media briefing on Thursday (May 30), Mr. Charles said the summit is intended to heighten awareness among Jamaicans about the importance of boosting workforce productivity, by elevating discussions to this regard.

“We should aim to elevate the conversation around productivity so that everyone working in the private sector and in the public sector will understand that for Jamaica to grow, it will have to be more than just discussions on economic stability. We will [need to] be promoting productivity improvements within our economy,” the Minister said.

Consequently, Mr. Charles said the summit will provide an opportunity for the Ministry to “truly expose Jamaica to the productivity tools and innovative solutions and to drive that conversation around the work trends for our country”.

An extensive social media campaign will be launched to support work undertaken in relation to this engagement.

Meanwhile, the Ministry will be launching an Innovation and Productivity Competition for the public sector, with aims to encourage and promote efficiency in government agencies.

“This competition is critical. As the Government, we have the responsibility to drive the conversation on productivity,” Minister Charles emphasised.

The Jamaica Productivity Centre (JPC), an agency of the Ministry, will spearhead the competition, which will crown Public Sector Innovation and Productivity Organisation of the Year winners.
