Ministry of Labour and Social Security MLSS Warns Against False “Hurricane Grant” Message, Confirms Official Relief Efforts Underway

By: , November 3, 2025

The Full Story

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is aware of a message circulating on social media claiming the existence of a “hurricane grant.”

This message is false. The figures being shared relate to relief grants that were provided to households affected by Hurricane Beryl in 2024, and do not apply to the current situation.

The Government of Jamaica remains firmly committed to assisting all citizens affected by the recent hurricane, and has started the process of conducting household damage assessments. An official announcement on financial assistance to affected persons will be made in due course.

In the meantime, the Ministry, along with local and international partners continues the urgent distribution of relief supplies.

The Ministry urges all Jamaicans to stay informed through official Government of Jamaica channels, including the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

That was a Public Service Announcement from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security – The People’s Ministry, Leaving No One Behind.
