The Education System Transformation Programme in the Ministry of Education (MoE) will be hosting a two-day conference in January on special education, in an effort to improve the educational offerings for children with special needs.
The conference is slated for the Sunset Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, from January 25 to 26, 2011, under the theme: ‘Access, Equity and Relevance: Critical considerations for students with special needs’. It will commence at 9:00 a.m. both days.
Topics to be discussed include: emotional/behavioural disorders in the classroom; strategies for reading and mathematics success; prevention of violent and destructive behaviours; and understanding and identifying giftedness.
The two-day event is specifically targetted at special and general educators, parents, school administrators, teacher educators, care and protective service agencies, among other stakeholders.
Interested persons are being encouraged to register early and benefit from an early bird special, which is $10,320 or US$120 before Friday, January 14, 2011. Registration costs after January 14 will be $13,760 or US$160.
